From the canals of Venice to the shores of Barataria, join us to sing Gilbert & Sullivan’s sunniest opera!
Meet Venetian gondoliers Marco and Giuseppe, who are betrothed to local beauties Gianetta and Tessa. Unknown to the couples, one of the gondoliers is the heir to the throne of Barataria – but, in typical topsy-turvy fashion, nobody can be sure whether Marco or Giuseppe is the rightful ruler! Furthermore, the young King of Barataria was married in infancy to beautiful aristocrat Casilda, who travels from Spain to claim her husband, only to find that there are two potentials, and that they are both newly married. The two young gondoliers must now attempt to rule the kingdom together until the king’s former nurse is found and his true identity confirmed.
For this one-off performance, EDGAS provides the soloists and full orchestra and you, the audience, provide the chorus. It’s time to dust off your Gondoliers score and join us on Sunday 3rd of February at 7.30pm in St Andrew’s and St George’s West Church, Edinburgh.
There will be some scores available to borrow at the performance.
Tickets are priced at £10 and can be purchased on the door or at www.ticketsource.co.uk
