The Society

The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Edinburgh was founded in 1924 to foster the love and appreciation of the works of W.S. Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan.

The Society meets monthly between October and May for recitals, talks and other events. Performing members meet weekly during the winter to rehearse the annual production. During the year, performing members also provide concerts for many organisations and groups throughout Edinburgh, the Lothians and beyond. For the past few years, the Society has been invited by Seafarers UK Scotland to sing at its annual concert in the Usher Hall with the Band of H.M. Royal Marines Scotland.

The Society has been raising funds for charity since 1946 and in the past few years has helped the Sick Kids Appeal, Music and the Deaf, Sir Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund for Children, the Council for Music in Hospitals and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Joining The Company

Membership of the society is open to anyone with an interest in Gilbert & Sullivan. There are two types of membership available; performing and non-performing. People wishing to become performing members will be asked to sing an audition piece at the first rehearsal they attend.

If you are interested in joining, please contact the Honorary Membership Secretary at:

EDGAS achieve the double

In March 2009, the Edinburgh Gilbert & Sullivan Society completed a highly successful double run of H.M.S. Pinafore and Patience in the same week.

About This Web Site

Welcome to our new-look web site. I hope you find it easier to navigate round now.

Getting about this web site is fairly simple. All the sections can be accessed from any page by clicking on one of the section tabs provided along the top of the page.

Once you have selected the section you want to explore, you can use the button bar at the top of the left hand side to select the different parts of the section. Some sections only have one page and so they will not have any buttons. The button for the selected part will be highlighted in a different colour as is the tab for the current section

If you have any suggestions or comments about the web site, please email them to:

The web-site is now mostly in place but the archive section still has a lot to be added. As you will realise, this is going to take a long time, so please be patient. We endeavour to get it all going as soon as possible. Thanks!
