Steven Griffin

Biography taken from 1999 (Ivanhoe) programme:
Steven was born and
raised in South Wales. He was awarded a choral scholarship to
Magdalen Collage, Oxford, where he studied music. Since
graduating, he has performed an eclectic repertoire of music,
ranging from plainchant to pop. His professional l engagements
have included performances in the chorus of Scottish Opera, the
Choir of St. Brides Church, Fleet Street, London and St. John's
Chamber Opera, and solo performances with the Edinburgh Bach
Society. Steven's repertoire includes Curlew River and
St. Nicolas (Britten), Christmas Oratorio and St.
John Passion (Bach), Messiah and Samson
(Handel), The Apostles (Elgar) and a wide variety of
songs by composers as diverse as Beethoven, Duparc and Barber.
He has a particular interest in Edwardian and Victorian ballads
and similar neglected "classics" and regularly forces gems such
as Come Into the Garden, Maud and Thora onto
unsuspecting audiences. Steven also writes music, most recently
a new Christmas carol for Na Clarsairean, the orchestra
of the Edinburgh branch of the Clarsach Society.
