The Mikado
The King’s Theatre, Edinburgh
Once again another excellent production from
this Society, through their talented Director Alan Borthwick and M.D. David
Lyle. The chorus was in tip-top form. The clarity and volume are to be
commended. Max Smart gave a great portrayal of the imperious Mikado, while Neil
French, disuised as the wandering minstrel, pleasantly sang the role of
Nanki-Poo. Fiona Main was up to her own usual high standard as Yum-Yum, together
with Deborah Wake as Pitti-Sing and Alison York as Peep-Bo. The trio were ideal
as the Three Little Maids. Ian Lawson as Pooh-Bah made his presence felt with
wonderful stature and strong projection - a natural for the role. Natural too,
was George Rae as Ko-Ko. His was an excellent presentation of the part. Heather
Boyd played her part to perfection as usual. It was a real joy to listen to her.
Ross Main as the noble lord Pish-Tush also played well, as did David Vivanco in
his role as Go-To. With an excellent set, costumes and props, I can say no more.
Really a wonderful show.
